Featured interview With Jen Burrows

We Have Jennifer Burrows here with us today, so lets quiz her a little and see what we can find out

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a Registered Nurse; I have three boys, two dogs, and two desert tortoises.  I love Disneyland and the Mountains.  If I can ever make a living from writing, I’d love to live full time in Mammoth Lakes, California. I love writing.  I have so many great stories in my head.  I can’t wait to get them all down on paper.

How did you become a writer, and did you always want to write?

I’ve wanted to write since high school.  I originally majored in English Lit in college.  One semester I had an awful professor.  Without going into details, I stopped writing for a really long time and went into the nursing field.  I picked up the pen about three years ago and haven’t stopped since.

How do you hope your readers react to the stories you write?

I think every writer wants the readers to connect with the characters and the story.  I also want that, but I try to make the reader feel a mixture of emotions throughout the story.  I also like to give the reader knowledge of something they may not have had before.  For instance, A Shot in the Dark and Into the Light are in the hospital setting.  I use a lot of medical terms with descriptions so the reader feels more knowledgeable and empowered.  With Surrender (TBR this summer), the story is based in Italy.  I talk about many of the buildings and structures to educate the reader on different sites.

What responses to your writing have affected you the most and why?

I had a couple of very negative responses to Into the Light.  They really bothered me because they didn’t read A Shot in the Dark first.  How can you pick up in the middle of a series and expect to understand everything and then give the author a low rating?  It baffles and frustrates me.

Other than writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?

Hmmm.  Nice question.  I think my main goal right now is just to get my boys raised to become the best men they can be.  I would also love to travel more.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to travel, snowboard, go to the gym, and hang out with my family.

What can you tell us about your latest works?

The latest book is called Surrender.  I wrote it in November for NanoWriMo.  Like I stated previously, it’s based in Italy and surround an Italian black market cartel.  There’s some romance and a lot of action and suspense.  It will keep you on your toes.

What stories can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?

Surrender is coming out this summer.  It was originally going to be a stand alone, and right now it is.  However, I could definitely see a sequel for it.  I also have a YA book I’m considering and a suspense based on a cruise ship.  Look for those in the next few months.

What would you like to say to your fans in New Zealand and others worldwide?

Thank you so much for supporting and believing in me.  Without you, none of this would be possible.  I can only hope to live up to your expectations.

Do you have any parting words?
