Featured Interview & Giveaway With Dee Kelly Author

I have Dee Kelly with me today, and we are all a buzz with the release of Breaking Kate and all the excitement of a new book.

Dee is a new author for me so I'm just as excited to find out more about her as I'm sure you all are.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a mom of two boys and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 16 years but we’ve actually been together for 22. I’m sarcastic and I like to think I’m funny. I’m not a girly girl I think my husband bringing me Starbucks in the morning is better than getting flowers. I love margaritas and Mexican food. Give me chocolate and I’ll love you forever.

How did you become a writer, and did you always want to write?

I’ve always been a writer in one capacity or another going all the way back to my childhood. I always wanted to write but never had the faith in myself to really get started and put myself out there. I work in an industry that is being outsourced to other countries, when I got laid off from work my husband encouraged me to run with me dream and see what happens.

How do you hope your readers react to the stories you write?

Well like any author I hope that my books will bring enjoyment to my readers. Writing is 100% interpretative what some people love others will hate and that’s okay it’s what diversifies us. I hope that my readers will be drawn into the story and fall in love with the characters.

What responses to your writing have affected you the most and why?

Breaking Kate is my first book so right now I just have feedback from beta readers and friends. I would say my favourite response is that the readers are already picking teams of who they want Kate to fall for. However, the most touching response was hearing that the book made someone cry. Not that I enjoy making people cry but to know as a writer you were able to evoke that kind of emotion from someone is surreal.

Other than writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?

To be the best person I can be. Above all else to be a great wife and mother, family comes before all else. I try to be a positive and encouraging person for others. As a family we do community service it’s important to me to know that I have raised empathetic children who know life is more about giving than it is about receiving.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Write of course, read, and take walks with my husband. Watch my kids play sports, you can generally find us at a football, baseball or track event depending on the season. I love driving to relax usually up PCH just seeing and smelling the ocean is calming.

What can you tell us about your latest works?

The Acceptance Series is about love, loss and finding yourself. I’ll be honest it’s not your typical happily ever after…It’s real life, it’s messy and emotional.

What stories can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?

The Acceptance Series will have at least 3 books and a novella. The novella will be released in between the first book Breaking Kate and the second book in the series. Right now I am planning a spin off with one of the characters which I’m not sure yet if it will be a stand-alone or a series. There will also be a Christmas novella featuring one of the couples from the series but that won’t be until 2015.
After this series I have two other series planned out that may intersect with each other one revolves around a bar/club and the other around a band. I come from a family of musicians so the band story is really important for me to write.

What would you like to say to your fans in New Zealand and others worldwide?

The fact that I have fans is crazy. I’m absolutely honoured that you are taking the time out of your lives to read my books and communicate with me online. I love the ability that social media gives us to communicate with people all over the world. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas, feel free to send me messages anytime and I’ll do my best to respond to you all.

Do you have any parting words?

Just remember that author’s, especially indie author’s need reviews on their books. Even if you didn’t like it leave a constructive review they really help us learn where our readers are connecting with us and where we lost them.

Above all else I just want to thank you all for taking this journey with me. I’m truly blessed to have readers like you behind me.
