Jade C Jamison is in the house with me this morning, And I'm pretty A++ excited to find out what she has on offer for us this morning.
Tell us a little
about yourself.
I have no idea where to start. Let’s see...I have four children and three
cats (working on becoming a crazy cat lady).
I have three degrees in English.
One of them is in Creative Writing (of course) and until May of last
year, I taught composition and creative writing classes for a nearby community
college. I still have a “day job” but
hope to lose it someday soon!
How did you
become a writer, and did you always want to write?
I was born a writer.
Yes, I have always wanted to write.
I started writing poetry at the age of seven and short stories at the
age of twelve. I wrote my first novel at
the age of eighteen, but I’ve spent years honing my skills.
How do you hope
your readers react to the stories you write?
With emotion. When
someone tells me they were angry or crying at one of my stories, I feel like
I’ve done my job. I want readers to feel
something, whether it’s crying or laughing their butts off!
What responses
to your writing have affected you the most and why?
Even though I wish it wasn’t true, it’s the extreme
responses that affect me most. The
gushing reviews—those are awesome, land me on cloud nine, and reward me hugely for
doing what I love most. The other
extreme, though—really nasty, mean reviews, one where the reader acts like I
personally set out to ruin her life by writing a novel—affect me negatively. I used to read all my reviews, feeling like I
could learn something from each one, but the one-star reviews are not worth
it. If, by the first sentence, I can
tell it’s mean and nasty, I stop reading.
I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life. The reviewer is welcome to her opinion, but
that doesn’t mean I have to read it.
Other than
writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?
Someday I would like to travel the world. I’d like to become a better guitar player
(but I spend too much of my spare time writing to practice as much as I
should). Get my kids through
college. I have a lot of charitable
goals as well.
What do you like
to do in your spare time?
Read, write, play guitar, play games with my family, garden,
go to concerts. I like to go to the
movies once in a while too.
What can you
tell us about your latest works?
Fully Automatic
comes out 1/30/14 and is the fourth book in my Bullet series. It’s an alternate POV from the first book, Bullet, but it’s so much more. It’s a story that had to be told. I don’t want to give too much away for those
who haven’t had a chance to read the story, but Bullet I subtitled “An Epic Rock Star Novel.” Fully
Automatic is just as epic in scope, but it’s told entirely from a male
perspective. This is the first book I’ve
written entirely from a male point of view.
It was challenging, but I’m glad I did it. So far, the response of reviewers is
positive. I can’t wait to share it with
my readers!
What stories
can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?
Soon, the long-awaited ninth book of the Nicki Sosebee
series will be available (Fake) and
then I will be writing a book called Be
Careful What You Wish For, based on a short story of the same name found in
my book Quickies. After that, I have a long list, but I’m not
sure what will come next! I have so many
projects that need to be written!
What would you
like to say to your fans in New
Zealand and others worldwide?
Thank you.
Sincerely. Sure, I write for
myself, but I write for you. Thank you for
reading my words and sharing your thoughts with me. It means the world to me.
Do you have any
parting words?
