Tell us a little
about yourself.
I’m a wife and a mom before I’m anything else. I've been
married to my amazing (and so, so handsome) husband for six and a half years
and we have a three-year -ld diva and a one-year-old little man. Their names
are Carrington and Raleigh. We live in South Carolina
which is on the East Coast of the United States . I grew up in Coastal
Virginia, so the beach is in my blood and I WILL live beside it again one day!
I used to be a teacher in my past life (that’s what I call my life before kids)
and I taught second and third grade. I loved that, but after I had my daughter
my heart was in being at home with her all day. Thus, my writing career was
born! I'm also a dancer. I've danced my whole life, competitively as a teenager
and when I was in my twenties. So now I teach and choreograph when I can:
ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary.
How did you
become a writer, and did you always want to write?
You know what? I've always, always had an affinity for
writing. As a child, I had work published in the local paper and I won numerous
writing contests. But somehow, as I got older, I really lost sight of my talent
and never even considered trying to make a career of it. So when I began
staying at home with my daughter when she was one, I sat down and decided to
write the story of a girl I had floating around I my head. The story became the
novel Color Blind.
How do you hope
your readers react to the stories you write?
I want them to love them. Really! I want readers to fall in
love with the characters so that they want more of them. Because I really want
to write more of them. And I love my characters…so it would be so nice if
others did, too.
What responses
to your writing have affected you the most and why?
I’I'm new at sharing my writing with others, so I'll have to
let you know about this one later.
Other than
writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?
I always want to be available for my husband and my
children. That was one of the reasons I stepped away from working out of the
home and wanted to stay at home when my daughter was little. I hate feeling
stretched in too many different directions. So my family is first, and first
and foremost I want to be a great wife and a mom that my kids look back on as
giving them an amazing childhood.
What do you like
to do in your spare time?
I really like to cook and bake. I'm always trying new things
and eating the things I make is just a fabulous bonus. I also am an avid reader
and an avid TV watcher. I probably have more shows than anyone else I know,
except my husband. I'm so addicted to Tv it’s ridiculous. I'm also a
choreographer, so any time I have a chance to work with other dancers it’s
amazing for my creative juices.
What can you
tell us about your latest works?
My second novel, Out Of The Ashes will be published December
12, 2013 by me. It will be available as an ebook on Amazon, Nook, ibooks,Kobo,
and Smashwords. I'm excited about it because it’s the first book of a two-part
series. It’s a really emotional story and needed to be told over two separate
books. It’s super-emotional and makes me cry in more than once place when I
reread it. I've recently finished writing the sequel, Settling Ashes, and it
will be available in early 2014.
What stories
can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?
Well other than the Ashes series, I've’ve also begun another
New Adult serial called Nelson Island Romances. The first story to be told from
Nelson Island is called Wanted, and it’s HOT! I can't wait to release it. Look
for it maybe around April. I plan to write many stories in that serial that
follow the different characters who live on Nelson Island, South Carolina.
What would you
like to say to your fans in New Zealand and others worldwide?
Well, I don't have any yet. But I'd like to say to New
Zealanders in general that I hope I get to visit someday. And if that happens
because of my books, well that would be fantastic. And I feel like that about
world travel in general. So, read my books! Maybe it will help me get to your
country that much faster.
Do you have any
parting words?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this interview.
