The one that got away by Bethany Bloom

Book Synopsis:

Have you ever wondered about the one who got away? The person from your past whom you've never quite managed to stop thinking about? What would happen if that certain someone returned—today? **

Olivine Eriksson never needed a man until Henry Cooper tumbled into her path. And just as Olivine falls for him, Henry vanishes. Mysteriously and completely.

Fast forward ten years. Olivine has given up, finally, on fairy tales of the re-emerging lover and, as the clock on her living legacy ticks away, she decides to move on and begin planning her wedding to Paul. A surgeon and humanitarian,

Paul is helping her to lead the life they've dreamed of together. Loving him makes perfect sense. He needs her, and he has plans for her. Big, important plans. And Olivine wants nothing more than to live a big, important life.

But a twist of fate and a mysterious intervention brings Henry back to Olivine's idyllic mountain village and in search of the only woman he has ever loved.

His return triggers Olivine to remember the wide-eyed, wilder woman she once was and to recognize the ways she has distorted herself to fit into her perfect life with Paul. Now Olivine must choose between the man who will give her everything and the man who proves she needs nothing.

A wise and deeply moving portrait of a woman rediscovering the power she once held, The One Who Got Away is a masterful love story that will remind readers how fate can change in the blink of an eye. Will Olivine decide what she truly wants before she loses it all?

My review:

This was a story about a woman who really lived in the past in her head,
There had been events that had transpired in her past that she found hard to sort out so she constantly relived them.

There was Paul who loved her, but he waited that long to show her how much she mean't to him by waiting until she had proposed to him, before he then turned the proposal around and re proposed to her, so he didn't look bad, his excuse was he had brought the ring awhile back but the timing was never right.

Paul seemed very vanilla and boring to her, he as always pushing her to go down a medical career path which not only was she really not very keen to go down but some of the lessons made her quite squeamish  and if she tried to explain it to Paul , he would make fun of her and tell her she obviously was not focused,  she was not allowed to be herself and any dreams and aspirations she had of being a freelance writer were thrown away as he made fun of her when he had read one of her journals she had written

and she would never show him ever again the writing style that she had perfected.

Paul was loaded and she never or would never want for anything  but she just didn't feel loved and cherished, then in walks Henry Cooper.

Henry and Olivine had been lovers 10 years previous  and it was the memories they had made that she kept going back to in her mind all these years, as they were simple things which she held in high esteem,  they were very passionate to her, and she would never ever forget the way he made her feel, and the fact that he encouraged her no end to go for everything that she wanted to be and that being yourself was the most important thing in  life, but something had happened 10 years previous to Henry and he had upped and left with no note , no explanation nothing and Olivine had never known what had transpired to take Henry away.

When Olivine found out Henry was coming back into town again, her mind went AWOL  she had all these dreams and  fantasies about his return, but she was not sure if they were just that , dream and fantasies or if they were something that she would be able to bring to reality.

Although I enjoyed this story, it was a little to much in your head for me, and Olivine kept chopping and changing her mind constantly as to what she wanted, instead of making a plan and sticking to it.

3 stars from me
