Author Bio

Born and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn't stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.

When she's not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently (still) resides in the big shake (although her southern roots are calling her home) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

Guest Post From Gabriel Himself
Traveling with Gabriel Roberts: His top ten travel destinations.

I do quite a lot of traveling. I’ve always loved the freedom and sense of adventure travel brings. Never knowing what the next day might bring, or what I might stumble upon, or fall in love with. Different places allow for different experiences.  There are many places I could have listed here. There have been many places that I knew I would never forget. But these ten places are home to me, in one way or another. These are the places that have forever marked me.

1.     New Orleans, Louisiana.

New Orleans has always felt like home to me. There’s something about the place that just calls to me; beyond it being my Evangeline’s home. It’s the humid air, the sultry nights, the cuisine, the warm people, the unique culture, and the lush history. I believe it’s the music too. My heart beats to a rhythm, and I follow it, like a drum in the night. When I’m there, I am home. And for a man like me, who has never really felt at home anywhere, that’s everything.

If you ever get around to visiting: You must try the beignets. But beware: they’re addicting, like the most potent drug.

2.     Glendalough, Ireland.

Glendalough is a place that I retreat to when the world has become too cumbersome. Our home there is located far off the beaten path, like most of our homes, but this one is truly in its own small world. That’s what I love most about it. Ireland is my home; it’s the place where I was born. I can escape to another time when I’m there. I can reconnect with who I am and where I came from.

If you ever get around to visiting: Be sure to visit its early medieval monastic settlement, founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin.  It’s a fascinating piece of history that partly still stands today. It has brilliant lakes and scenic mountains too.

3.     Nashville, Tennessee.

Nashville has become my home, my adopted city. This is where my business is located, but it has become so much more to me. I’m surrounded by likeminded people in Nashville; all creative in their pursuit of fulfillment. I can produce these stellar musical instruments, create music for myself, and enjoy the most beautiful views on my way home. There’s no place quite like it. It inspires me every day.

If you ever get around to visiting: Drop by Saving Angels. We’d love to have you. And if you’re in the market for some sweet, live music—try the legendary Blue Bird Café. It’s as good as the rumors say it is.

4.     Sicily, Italy (Taormina).

Let’s just start with the fact that I’m talking about Italy. Nothing can ever be wrong in Italy. There is so much to be thankful for there—the culture, the people, the scenery, the music… shall I go on?

If you ever get around to visiting: Stroll down the medieval streets, take in the sights from behind St. Joseph’s Church, and take a serene boat ride on water that looks like it is made of crystal and has infinite depth.

5.     Inishmaan, Ireland.

Inishmaan, or Inis Meáin, is where my mum was born and raised. It is the middle of the three Aran Islands. I used to visit quite a bit with my mum, and I remember hiding behind the stones, little rocky forts, really. I’d ride my bike along the paths, and never have a care in the world. This is why I love Inis Meáin, it has the ability to rewind time, and take me to a place where I am high on foolish abandon.

If you ever get around to visiting: Get lost. Just get lost. Because you really can’t, but when you find your way, you’ll find that you found yourself again.

6.     Isle of Skye, Scotland.

I’ve always been particularly fond of Skye. It holds a key to not only my past, but Michael’s, as well. Part of our heritage, our past, is alive there. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, but also to the soul. The landscape is alive with Highland tails and history, and if you listen close enough, you can hear the stories through the wind. Evangeline loves it there, although she will tell you to stay away from the haggis. But that’s a story for another day. Her favorite place is the Fairy Pools. She said she feels enchanted when she’s there.

If you ever get around to visiting: Be enchanted. Visit the Fairy Pools, take a seaplane to see the island from a terrific, terrific view, and go fly and sea fishing… the possibilities are endless.

7.     Half Moon Bay, Ca.

I’m not huge fan of California, given my past history. I just never felt the pull to be there. I spent most of my time in Southern California—too much traffic, too much smog. But in Half Moon Bay, I found some sort of magic that spoke to me. I loved the fog and the bay. I loved the smell of the beach, that odd combination of brine and rotting fish and fresh air.

If you ever get around to visiting: You must check out the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. You can walk along a trail lining the Cliffside, admiring the stunning views of the beach, and the ethereal cypress grove. And if you’re looking for a bite to eat and some mystery, take a bike ride to the Moss Beach Distillery. The Blue Lady banshee might be around to say… Haloooo.

8.     Burgundy, France.

My sole purpose for vising was to discover where Madam and Raphael had spent their newlywed years. I ended up falling in love. The colors of Burgundy are unreal, almost like an artist brushed them with an ethereal stroke. There’s a sense of peace there, and I always look forward to going back.

If you ever get around to visiting: It’s all about the wine, even though I don’t have much of a taste for it. I prefer to just ride a bike, exploring the area and taking in the sites.

9.     St. Martinville, La.

I’m sure by now you’ve come to realize I love visiting (and living in) rather small areas of the world. We have a place in St. Martinville, a gorgeous home that sits along the banks of Bayou Teche. It’s soaked in history, and humidity, and it carries with it a thousand tales of years gone by. It’s in the heart of Cajun country. One of the most romantic spots in Louisiana, I do believe. The sunsets are art; the bayous are creeping with living things that have survived for hundreds of years, not to mention the mysteriousness that somehow breeds there. It’s also the home of Gabriel and his Evangeline—not our story, but the one Henry Wadsworth Longfellow immortalized in his poem, Evangeline.

If you ever get around to visiting: St. Martinville is home to one of the oldest churches in Acadiana—St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. In the Church Square is the statue of the town’s beloved Evangeline, who awaits Gabriel’s return. Take a tour of the Bayou Teche. Allow yourself to be swept away by the history and future of this quant, but lush, Acadian town.

10.  Bora Bora.

I doubt there is much to say about Bora Bora. Except for this: Bora Bora Island sex. If you haven’t tried it, you must. You can check away ten notches off your bucket list if you do. Just make sure you bring your partner. Sex is not much fun unless it involves two.

If you ever get around to visiting: Island sex—that’s all there is to it.
