Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a thirty-something mother of three. I’ve spent the past decade
running various Internet businesses. I hold a bachelor’s in English from Smith College
I prefer beaches to mountains, chocolate to vanilla, and Internet
to TV. That said, Trueblood, Shameless, and Game of Thrones give my life
purpose. In my spare time, of which I have none, I like to do absolutely nothing,
preferably on a pool raft with a refreshing adult beverage in hand.
How did you
become a writer, and did you always want to write?
I became a writer by way of rediscovering my love of books.
After college, motherhood and entrepreneurship took over my life. Reading for
fun had fallen to the wayside, but a few years ago that changed. So I decided
to put myself to the task of writing my own story, which eventually turned into
Hardwired, the first in what will
become a five book series ultimately.
While I always believed writing would have a place in my
life, I never envisioned being a full-time writer. It’s one of those jobs you
fantasize about having but never really believe is possible. Doing what I do
now is a very unexpected dream come true.
How do you hope your readers react to the stories you write?
While romance is the foundation for the stories I write, I’m
usually tackling some other themes too, like gender roles and power play and
healing. I enjoy writing about heroines who are modern women and aren’t so
easily swept away. I don’t see it in this genre as much as I would like, and I
think it keeps the relationships a little more interesting. Along with falling
in love with the characters, I hope that my readers appreciate that. And of
course with every story, I am always hoping to shock my readers. As many will
attest, plot twists are my favorite :)
What responses
to your writing have affected you the most and why?
I believe it takes times to find your niche and style as a
writer. After publishing Hardpressed,
I read a lot of the early reviews commenting on the “emotional whiplash” that
came with reading it. Intrigued, I upped the ante on that level with On My Knees, which turned into a pretty
intense second chance story, and the feedback confirmed it. At that point I
think I realized that I could give people a steamy romance but take them on a
meaningful emotional journey as well. If I can write a story that people can
connect to on a deeper level, all the better!
Other than
writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?
My life moves at warp-speed and that hasn’t stopped for the
better part of a decade. I’m constantly looking for the brakes. Achieving
work/life balance and being able to stop and appreciate the small things and capture
the fleeting moments in life is constant goal and challenge for me. Otherwise
I’m quite content writing as many books as I can manage and seeing where this
journey takes me.
What do you like
to do in your spare time?
As I mentioned, I don’t really have much spare time, but if
I can carve it out, I enjoy yoga, sitting in the sun, or catching a movie or
show with the family. I also have a weakness for Facebook.
What can you
tell us about your latest works?
By the time this interview is published, I will have
released Hardline, which is the third
installment in the Hacker Series. This is a continuation of Blake and Erica’s
story as they work through their intense relationship and face off with the
people around them who threaten it.
What stories
can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?
My plan is to finish the Hacker Series before tackling
anything new. I will be working on Hard
Limit, book four in the series with a tentative fall release. That said, I
am always working on other stories in the background, and I’m anxious to write
the next two Bridge Series books, as well as a few others I have kicking around
in my head.
What would you
like to say to your fans in New Zealand and others worldwide?
I love you! You keep me writing and loving what I do. I love
that in this day and age, I’m able to reach out to such a broad readership
across the globe, and I’m looking forward to sharing many more stories in the
months and years to come.
