We have L B Simmon's here today, so let's ask her a few questions
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am the mother of three little girl and the wife to a very
handsome Italian man. I work full time as a chemist and write my books at night
after the girls go to bed. I love going out, having a few drinks, and having a
blast. I love roller coasters, but unfortunately, no one in my family will ride
them with me. Except my six year old. I’m waiting for her to grow, a lot, and
then I will finally have my riding partner. J
Oh! And I’ve written four books. Running on Empty, Recovery,
Running in Place (All part of the Mending Hearts Series), and a recently
released standalone, The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller.
How did you
become a writer, and did you always want to write?
I’ve always been able to write, and have written a little
here and there, but not until I decided to write a “memoir” for my babies did I
come up with the premise for my first actual novel, Running on Empty. The book
is about a single mother of three little girls, and I wrote it to capture some
of the crazy stuff that has happened to me because of them, and the little
catch phrases and silly fights they were getting in at the time. I wanted them
to have something to remember always thing about their childhood. My husband,
however, wasn’t very happy that I “killed him off”. I told him to stop leaving
my car on empty, which also comes into play in the book. LOL!
How do you hope
your readers react to the stories you write?
I try to write stories with lessons. My books do not revolve around sex, but around relationships. Learning to face your fears and live life to the fullest. Learning that you have to love yourself before you can truly love anyone else. And learning that sometimes life deals you a crappy hand, but that it’s up to you to decide how you’re going to play it. I want my readers to have a full experience while reading. I want them to laugh, to cry, to giggle, to swoon. All while learning a valuable lesson. That is my ultimate goal when writing a book.

What responses
to your writing have affected you the most and why?
The most powerful responses I’ve had were ones received
regarding The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller. People that have dealt with the
issues in the book, but now have learned to think of their lives differently.
Those are the most amazing responses. To know that my words touched people so
deeply, that they altered the way they look at their own lives, it’s just an
amazing feeling.
Other than
writing great stories, what other goals do you have for your life?
Just to raise my girls to the best of my abilities. To teach
them to follow their dreams, and that with enough hard work, you can achieve
anything. Whether it be publishing their own books someday, or learning a new
instrument…anything. I want to show them that they can do anything they put
their minds to doing.
What do you like
to do in your spare time?
Spare time? What is that again? When I’m not working, or
writing, or doing things with the girls, I really love to read. There’s
something about getting lost in a book that I find so rewarding. It’s different
than writing for me. There is no stress, no worry, no plotting…just reading
someone else’s wonderful story and fully enjoying it. Best feeling ever!
Well, I just released The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller.
It’s about a girl who fears that she causes death to the people around her, so
she alters her appearance to keep people away from her. But upon entering
college, she finds two people who are able to break through her steel shell and
being her back to life, hence the resurrection. The theme is about death, but
trust me when I say, it is a truly inspirational read about learning to love
all that life has to offer.
What stories
can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?
I am currently brainstorming a new one right now. I’m hoping
it will touch readers as much as Aubrey did. It will be in the YA genre
however, and deals with some issues that I really think need to be brought to
the forefront. Vague enough for you? LOL!
What would you
like to say to your fans in New
Zealand and others worldwide?
I love interacting with my readers. So please, take the time
to stop by my page, email me, send me a friend request, tweet me, anything to
just say hello! Share what you are reading and let’s talk books, my books or
others! It doesn’t matter to me. I love
establishing those relationships. That’s my favourite part of being an author.
Meeting people I never would have otherwise.
Do you have any
parting words?
Yes! Thank you so much for having me! This has been fun! <3
